16 February 2008
The return of RCC will run for 48 hours for the entire days of March 1st and 2nd (Saturday and Sunday).
The official competition time is eastern USA, New York city time.
This will be the official site for the competition, it is still in development as you can probably see.
You will be informed with plenty of time how to use this site, so dont worry!
Took a bunch of midi and audio loops and just let em run in loop mode forever and ever....tweaked hardware filters/faders/thingmabobs as I went along.
Opening Lead Line = Roland MKS-30 and tweaked on the fly using the PG200
Bass = Roland D-50 with just volume slider changes
Piano = reFX Nexus and Chameleon fed thru a Electrix MoFX for the wacko delays
"Plinkiness" = Korg Prophecy fed thru Electrix Filter Factory
All were routed into my RME Fireface 400 and sequenced on the Macbook using Ableton. Headphone out of Macbook Fireface was plugged into Ins 3 and 4 on my other Fireface attached to my PC and recorded a live stream in Adobe Audition.
A little reggae groove i've had bouncing around in my head for months.
Wanted to start up some kinda Reggae/Dub thing with richo and Brucks. I was gonna bring this groove to the table as an original we could work on with a slower, more spacious intro. This is just an incomplete sketch to get the idea out of my head and into something a little more tangible.
Pay no attention to the intro, overly stiff bassline, cheese horn section phrase samples put in to make it less boring, or the man behind the curtain.
The main focus is the verse groove. Just 3 little chords I sketched out on my acoustic one day. Cm, Fm, Cm, G
Now....I need a bridge and maybe some form of chorus or something.
(I did want to do the horn parts with a melodica, but it was 3AM)
Drums: LOOPS! wooooot
Bass: Roland D-50
Piano: ReFX Nexus and Camel Audio Chameleon
Guitars: uh...my guitar and pod 1.0
And in the full spirit of #midiwarez this track features...........MORE COWBELL!
Guest Starring: Gene Frenkle
P.S. - Next RCC will feature the same load of garbage from me...except using another groove I have bouncin around in mah head.

I was listening to this entry again and something clicked in..."damn....I heard this drum groove before and that fill....WTF...well....it is a standard reggae drum beat...but...oh crap"
Seems I used this EXACT SAME DRUM LOOP AND FILL IN ONE OF MY PREVIOUS RCC ENTRIES.
/me is embarrassed about recycling old loops

How does bob marley like his doughnuts?... Wi jammin! Top reggae tackle.
Track isn't done, I wanna make the drums non-loopy and boring, cut em up and make fills. Maybe I will add in new parts or edit it up and add an ending. Gotta love the abrupt end.

P.S. - Roland D-50 FTW
P.P.S- No guitars were used....all synth, baby!
